Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Ohio Senator Corwin informs Briggs that he showed Mr. W. an article in the Cleveland, Ohio newspaper, The Plain Dealer. Refers to an enclosed note from Mr. W. (not included). Informs Briggs that debate regarding the "3 Million Appropriation Bill" will be opened the following day by Georgia Senator John Berrien. Declares that the Whig side of the House of Representatives will fully object to the bill.
