Pattison authorizes a 30-day furlough to Elmira, New York for Stanley, whose 22 January 1864 autograph signed furlough application to Brigadier General William Whipple appears on page two. At least three endorsements are cross-written across the front; one signed by Lt. Col. and Deputy Quarter Master General Osborn Cross (a future brevet brigadier general), and one by William H. Wisner. The final page has numerous endorsements, signed by, among others, Acting Surgeon-in-Chief Robert K. Tuthill, Brigade General Joseph F. Knipe, Major General Henry W. Slocum, Major General Joseph Hooker, Asst. Medical Director D. Backe, Lt. and AAG James R. Reynolds, and AAG H.W. Perkins (later breveted brigadier general).
