Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Ludlow writes that Robert, Jr.'s vessel has arrived in New York, and he has sold almost all of the flour, with the exception of some barrels that were damaged by a leaking pump on the ship. He also states what goods he will send back to Robert, Jr. Docketed on address leaf.
