Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Belden was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. Sends a note to King accepting his invitation to the annual reunion of the Society of the Army of the Potomac that will be held on 18 and 19 June 1895. Written on Belden's personal stationary that has his address as "30 Broad Street, New London."
