Ticknor writes to his family from Cairo, Illinois. Reports ten boats of rebel prisoners are in the harbor. Mentions they were in Kentucky for fifteen days. Comments the march was very hard due to rain and mud. Writes abut one regiment "...that could catch a hog and kill it and cut it up and put in their haversack and not miss a step..." Informs of his nice quarters. Letter mentions only day and year but no month.
