Responds to a letter from home saying he is very concerned and will send $200 as soon as he can. Writes about officers who have resigned and one who has written a critical article about the 8th Regiment for a newspaper. This letter was dated by Coit as January 1861 but it was actually written in 1862.

Yours written at 2 1/2 pm Dec 30 just rec'd have not rec'd the one before of the same date. Think I can send $200 this week or next early. I shall receive about $250. Am much troubled at your state of affairs, do write fully about all the business. I am sure I did not realize it at all. I send note to be used if necessary to some protect wish I had sent it long ago do excuse me to thank Geo. if you can. That report in paper sent about 8th Regt comes from Capt. Burpee who has resigned, you can judge whether it would be fair or not, one other - Capt Fowler - has also resigned & one Lt Scott that is all. All our inefficient officers & the Regt is much benefitted by loosing them. our Lt. Col. is much hurt by these remarks as he is much beloved & respected by all here also the major. The Regt is in better order & condition that ever before & is up to any of this Division. we have the right of the 3d Brigade as one of the three best Re9ts. It is rumored that col & Lt. col. Mathewson of the 11th have resigned, dont know. If write more shall miss mail & I want uncle Geo to have the note in time & it is the 2d of Jany now. Love & hugs Chas Map is rec'd.
