Dear George,
I have only time to acknowledge yours of Saturday last. I dont care much about the Lt. Colcy & will not accept the majority - so that ends that. I am much provoked that uncle George should have spoken to Mr. Blackstone after I had particular ly requested him to do nothing in the way of influence. He must have understood that all I wished was that Gov. B. should know that I would accept. I shant go to Norwich now in a hurry if I can get business elsewhere. Pratt told me that he would decline if I would accept but I assured him that I would not on any account. He's a fine fellow. I heard yesterday accidently that I was to be detailed on Div. staff as Aid de Camp. I know nothing of it.
I am of course much obliged to uncle Geo. I suppose he thought that the best was but if I had received the promotion after knowing that Mr. Blackstone had had any - influence - in the matter I should certainly have declined it. I mention Mr. Blackstone only as having great acknowledged influence over Gov. B's actions. Am very pleasantly fixed here Camp 4 or 5 miles from Manchester Have not been round any yet. Do write often. You dont know what an effect it has on me to write after avoiding every thing of the kind for the past 6 mos. Best love, Chas Keep your box at the N.H. Post office for I am having all my official papers address there & any thing that you receive marked official Business please open & if important copy & send the original to me.
