Written by Commander Rockwell of the USS "Yantic" to Rear Admiral Walker. Marked "Personal." Regrets that the "direction of Active Affairs in the Navy has passed out of your hands." Says he is about to embark on the cruise Walker arranged for him and wants to thank him. Says that "you will be followed by a measure of affectionate esteem and friendship, not awarded to any other officer in the service." Trusts he will live to see Walker promoted to Vice Admiral and Admiral. Has stamp, in purple ink, on recto that says "U.S.S. Yantic Nov 1 1889." Written at the Navy Yard.
