Written by Foote as commander of the Mississippi River Squadron to his wife. Written from Island No. 10, the day after Foote's Squadron captured it. Says he can barely lift his pen to write after the recent fight and the "intense mental anxiety for 23 days." Says she will see the account of the capture of Island No. 10 and claims "It is a Gibraltar." Says he cannot keep his head up and will feel better after a good night's sleep. Says his foot (earlier injured by a Confederate shell) is bothering him. Also includes a black and white print titled "Bombardment of Island No. 10." Shows ironclad rivership firing cannons at the islands. Size of the print is 15.6 x 23.6 cm.
