A letter from son to father detailing the son joining the ship the Savannah after leaving the Connecticut.
The year estimate is based on mention of the Fort Pickins affair in the letter. Fort Pickins was one of the only southern forts that remained in Union control for the whole of the civil war. The "affair" mentioned might be when Fort Pickins was taken by the union on Januray 10 1861.
