Pennsylvania governor Curtin responds to a letter from Major General Meade, commander of the 5th Corps, Army of the Potomac. Defends himself, saying that he did not intend to make General Cadwalader think that Meade had lost all confidence in General Hooker, commander of the Army of the Potomac. Notes that he was cautious to express his opinions when recently visiting Washington, D.C. Written on Pennsylvania Executive Chamber stationery. Autograph endorsement signed by General George G. Meade on second page.
