Taken just minutes before the ceremony to celebrate the joining of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads. Among those in the center of the front row are Thomas C. Durant, Vice President; Reverend Dr. John Todd, who was to deliver the benediction at the ceremony; Miss Minerva Earll; Mrs. Samuel Reed; John Duff, Director; Sidney Dillon, Director; Silas Seymour, Consulting Engineer; Grenville M. Dodge, Chief Engineer; and Samuel Reed, Superintendent of Construction.
