General Taylor, commander of the Army of the South during this period in the second Seminole War, sent this cover letter with enclosed reports (not included) to Major General Jones, adjutant general of the Army in Washington, D.C. One report attested to the bravery of Captain Rains when attacked by Seminoles near Fort King in April, 1840. The other concerned the murder of woman and two children by Seminoles.
