Vignette bust portrait of photographer David Knox. At the start of the American Civil War, Knox worked as an assistant to photographer Mathew Brady. He later began work for photographer Alexander Gardner, under whose direction he shot various elements of Union camp life and military weaponry. Some of his photographs were published in Gardner's "Photographic Sketchbook of the War."
