The image shows the interior of the earthworks at Petersburg. There is a now roofless wooden structure in the foreground next to the ruins of a chimney. A man in civilian clothes is visible just left of the center of the image. The numbers "1071" and "386" do not appear in this image- that part has been trimmed off. There is a notation of "1071" written in the lower left corner of the image. Formerly part of H.W. Fay's (keeper of Lincoln's tomb) scrapbook. Identical image can be seen in .610.
