Image shows six men, one is a captain, another's rank is obscured, and the remainder wear civilian clothes. The opening of an A-frame tent is visible on the right hand edge of the photo. Imprint on recto "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1862, by Barnard & Gibson, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the District of Columbia." Graphite inscription on verso "The big man the Captain of Chasseurs. The one in Citizen cap the doctor, both attaches of the party" "Joinville, Count de Paris Duke de Chartres &c." Photographers imprint on verso: "Brady's Album Gallery. No. 358. Camp Life, At Camp Winfield Scott, near Yorktown, May 3, The Photographs of this series were taken directly from nature, at considerable cost. Warning is therefore given that legal proceedings will be at once instituted against any party infringing the copyright."
