Taylor wears the uniform of a Naval officer, and the number of stripes on his sleeve, combined with the star situated above the stripes and the eagle on his shoulder denotes the rank of Captain in the US Navy (presently, Navy Captains wear four stripes and not the six Taylor wears). Ink inscription on recto "Col. Taylor." Graphite inscription on verso "C.....ylor." Photographers imprint on verso: "Negatives Preserved S.M. Fassett's New Gallery 114 & 116 South Clark St. Chicago."
