At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Nichols is writing for Owen's Father saying that clothes he is sending to his father should wait for Spring, and not to send it over the land during winter since it will take too long. Also that he will be dissapointed not to be able to write but the steamer (the Queen) is leaving early.
