"President's Message" gives a synopsis of Davis's message of 8 December regarding Confederate losses and Lincoln's offer for prisoner exchange. A letter to the editor examines the work of John Foster in an essay, "Improvements of Time." Several "Questions for Self-Examination" are printed for morning, evening, and general.
