[draft]
15 May 1863, Head Quarters 4th Michigan
Dear Sister:
This morning I sent from these Hd. Qu. An application for a leave of absence of three days for the purpose of visiting Nashville. I have the assurance of its going through to Geril Rosencranx, but it is very doubtful whether it comes back approved. If I am successful I will write you from Nashville concerning my visit. The enemy advanced in strong force last night on every pike up to within one half mile of our outpost picket. There has been no demonstration yet, but we are hourly expecting to hear "boots and saddles" blown. I am well but cannot write more at present.
Ever Your Dear Bro.
Geo.
Much love to Uncle, Grandma & all.
My box has not arrived yet.
