Bogert informs his parents that he has changed location to command the District of Columbus, with headquarters in Macon. Discusses a sum of money he might receive, and relates the route of his journey to Macon. States that he is in command of four companies, and doubts that his regiments will soon be mustered out. Relates that he attended the opera the previous night, performed by a New York troupe. Declares "I have not made any acquaintances here yet and do not think I shall I am going to keep to myself I have not tasted those Hickory nuts yet but will ... enjoy a pleasant Sunday afternoon eating Hickory Nuts." States that he has not heard recently from Mr. Willis, a Chaplain who often delivered his letters to his parents.
