Writes that his company was sent to Washington with prisoners, while he and three other men were sent to New York with more prisoners. While in New York, he was able to go home for two days, where he found his family in good health. Describes his journey to Brattleboro, Vermont, and life in his camp just outside the town. Says duty is not hard, because no troops are stationed there as of yet. Notes he is waiting to be paid, which will take a while because they do not have a paymaster. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner. Envelope includes a three stamp.
