Hopes for liberty. Written on stationery of the English Hotel.

I cannot express to you, my dear Colleague, how touched I am by the prize that you had the goodness of sending me a letter; the testimony of your esteem and of your friendship is met from my part by a well affectionate Reciprocity. We will arrive, I hope, to pass together this bridge that sill separates us from the liberty conquered by the July Revolution, and hence the delayed results will not escape us. In waiting I am happy of the new opportunity offered to me to [strikeout] [inserted: join] together our patriotic sympathies, and to [strikeout] [inserted: present] to you the expression of the most cordial and confident attachment of
your old Colleague
