One newspaper issue of The Philadelphia record, dated August 13, 1898. Prints news of the end of the Spanish-American War, with the halting of hostilities on August 12, 1898 and a signing in Washington of a Protocol of Peace between the United States and Spain. Also contains an article on the poisoning of Mary Elizabeth Dunning and her sister, Ida Harriet Deane, by Cordelia Botkin. Botkin had been having an affair with Dunning's husband, John Preston Dunning. This was America's first murder by mail. There is also local news, financial news, and stories from New York and Europe, as well as many advertisements and announcements.
