One petition entitled, "Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department Of Labor And Industry Workmen's Compensation Board Harrisburg" Petition 80,320, dated May 26, 1939. The document states that Homer L. Kreide, Esq. appeared on behalf of the claimant and John B. Pearsin, Esq. appeared on behalf of the defendant. The "Findings of Fact," section of the document relays that Leonard Eugene Graeff was employed by the Postal Telegraph-Cable Company as a messenger boy with a weekly average wage of $8.75. On September 23, 1938, Leonard was assigned to the House of Representatives at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. After lunch Leonard was to report to the office of the Postal Telegraph-Cable Company. On the way, he was struck by an automobile at Third and State Streets and suffered a "compound comminuted fracture of the left patella with severe laceration of the left arm and abrasions of right knee." He was a patient at Harrisburg Hospital until October 29, 1938 under the care of Dr. A. J. Griest. Leonard was disabled for twenty weeks and his surgical and hospital expenses totaled $336.45. In the "Conclusions of Law" section the document determins that, "both the claimant and defendant were bound by the Workmen's Compensation Act." As a result, Leonard was compensated 12.00 per week from September 24, 1938 to February 11, 1939, in the amount of $240.00, with interest. Also payment of $236.45 to the Harrisburg Hospital and $100.00 given to Dr. A. J. Griest.
