One letter from Leonard Eugene Graeff to Susan Prowell Graeff and Raymond James Graeff dated November 27, 1943. Leonard writes to thank Susan for her recent letter it made his Thanksgiving holiday less depressing. He reports that the mood around the camp was low because everyone wished they were home. He wonders if he said something when he was home to offend people, as he hasn't been getting many letters. He is finally in service school at Great Lakes Naval Training Station so he will be there another 4 months. After that he will have 66 hours of leave. He is looking forward to getting into Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin more now that he will get 32 hours leave every other week. He inquires about the status of the Reader's Digest subscription. He is curious on why Fuzz has not written him yet. He mentions that the sailor who lost his sock in the drain (see GLC09611.148.01) did not get in trouble and the pipes got fixed. He reports that there was a football game that the recruits at Great Lakes Naval Training Station played against Notre Dame University. Notre Dame was undefeated all year before the game, but the recruits won in the last minute of the game. He closes the letter asking about Susan using Raymond's pen and tell her to take care of her back.
