Mentions meeting a veteran Mr. Brooks, who was stationed in the South Pacific. He had participated in several battles with no wounds but caught malaria and was sent home. She also mentions another man who contracted malaria in a camp in Florida. They sold Leonard's car for $875. A lot of cars were priced around $650 and dealers were willing to spend $700.
