One letter from Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead to Virginia Herzog dated March 27, 1974. Moorhead replies to Herzog's letter against the impeachment of President Nixon. He writes, "As you know, Virginia, unless the Public thinks that the Committee has been diligent in bringing out all possible evidence against the President and has examined every bit of evidence with a hard and tough eye, it would not do Richard Nixon one bit of good to get a favorable verdict from the Committee. He would be better off to have his day before the Senate because they are not going to drop this unless they feel that they do not have anything to go on and I do not think the country can stand another two years of constant bickering nor can it stand two more years of a big majority of Democrats. We are walking a tight line. Nixon will be gone in a little over two years. We have got to make darn sure that there is a Republican Party left after he leaves the scene that is a viable alternative to the left wing schemes of the liberal Democrats who are now in control of their Party."
