Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Pay to Alexander Parker Late Captain

_______________ of the Pennsylvania Line, or his order the sum of thirty six pounds and three pence __________ being (stuck) two year's interest of his depreciation certificate, due the tenth day of April 1786 agreeably to an act of The General Assembly, intitled, " An act to appropriate certain monies arfying from the excife, for " the payment of the annual interest due on unalienated therein "mentioned" passed the twenty-first day of March 1783, (stuck) and one other Act dated the 25th of March 1783, and out of the fund appropriated by the faid act for the purpose therein mentioned.
