Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Sends money for a subscription to Adams's paper "The Engineering News". Mentions Major Gardner has been asked to officially submit the report on his case. Writes, "You asked Pope to deliver the address to Cadets -- [Jon] & Sherman?" Written on Central Railroad Co. of New Jersey stationery.

The 1878-1879 board exonerated Porter of previous charges made against him.
