At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

An attack on Andrew Jackson during the 1832 Presidential election. For the first four pages ("To the people of the United States), no author is cited. Pages 5 and 6 contain an address by Samuel Tucker "To the surviving officers and soldiers of the Revolution," in which Tucker accuses Jackson of violating the Constitution. Pages 6, 7, and 8 contain an extract from a letter by John Andrew Schulze, former Governor of Pennsylvania, dated 16 October 1832, in which Schulze attests that Jackson is unfit and unqualified for reelection. Bound with string.

Tucker served as a naval officer in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Schulze (often spelled Shulze) was Governor of Pennsylvania 1823-1829.
