Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Drawing of the plan and elevation of a powder magazine made for E.J. DuPont Nemours & Co. of Delaware. Lists dimensions as "18 x 26 Feet on the Floor x 10 Feet high for E.J. DuPont & Co./Capacity 5220 kegs." Includes sketch of a full size floor pin. On one side of muslin? cloth. Suffered water damage at some point.
