Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Orders for the daily schedule and other information for the volunteer battalion. Signed in print by Semmes as Captain of the Columbus Guard, A. H. Cooper, Captain of the City Light Guards, and T. Lomax, Adjutant. Semmes corrected version with autograph manuscript annotations and corrections, in his hand including an "s" after "Order."
