Dear Parents

I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same we are in the same place we have been for the past week we came of picket yesterday morning about 3 olcock we lost two men wounded one with a piece of shell and the other with a bullet none from our Co. you ought to see our mortars work the shell going through the air in the night - looks like a shooting star the rebs bagan shelling with their mortars day before yesterday they killed two of the Battery boys and two cooks belonging to the N.W. it was not long before our mortars got range on them and throwed over two or three shells and soon stopped their fun. our folks are digging under a fort here with the intention of blowing it up. they work night and day and they say round here that one fort is allready undermined and the powder under it ready to blow up as soon as they get the other one ready _ it has been very hot for the last two or three day but it is cooler this morning [ ] Jones says his wife heard he was wounded and taken Prisoner. he said they heard at home that our Co. was all killed and wounded but John Potter and Lewis Bliss they say Bill Northuss wife told 3 or 4 lies about it.
