Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

States "met pursuant to orders for Raising Every twenty fifth man for the Canada Expedition." Contains the names of captains and privates. Mentions Captain Morgan Lewis, whose company of militia marched in response to the 19 April 1775 Lexington Alarm. Possibly pertains to soldiers raised from the York, Maine area. List soldiers belonging to the alarm list in 1776.
