Signed by Houston as Commander in Chief of the army of Texas, granting pardon to Scales, who was under death sentence (for desertion?). The petition is signed by, among others, Amasa Turner, Lieutenant Millen, Deputy and W.W. Summers, Lieut. Pardon was requested because Scales was penitent and had faithfully performed his duty.

Your petitions would represent to you: that Private A Scales under sentence of death is very penitent, and has made a promise of a faithful performance of his dutey [sic] as a soldier in [f?] for his term as served, could he be pardoned for his present offence; and wishes his offences to [intercede] for him, and your petitions [?ly] believed him [sen?], and will be punctual in the performance of his duty.
Your petitions would, therefore most earnestly pray you to reprieve and pardon the condemn[ers].
