Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

She did not think he was "earnest enough to be willing to use the self denial that will be necessary in order to be a student," but says she will no longer oppose his decision. Offers Aaron advice about studying, including practicing his Latin, and suggestions for a place to stay.
