Pensacola Forida June 10th 1861
Monday morning
Dear sister as I am liying in bed this morning I am purmitted to pensel you a few lines to inform you that I am a cripple at this time my rite thigh is in the same fix your arm was laste sumer I have bin confined to my bed nine days I think I have it scattered I have blisterd twice in the same place I can begin to hoble about now on my crutch my company left me & others hear & went to virgina last sunday was a week ago thare was onley seventeen of us down with the measels at that time they have all got up sound & well but me & I am mending fast [struck: me] we are going to leave Pensacola to night bound for vergina at nine oclock I think I will be able to give the yankees around by the time I got thare if my leg improves as fast as it has in the [inserted: last] two days I shal write to you as soon as we git to vergina & find out whir we are going to be stationed I am in hopes I will be better pleased than I am hear I do not think we will have to stay thare long for I am in hopse peace will be [2] made some time in July Congress will meet on the forth of July and the Question will be settled one way or the other they will either compramise or go in to hard fiting if nothing else will do but a fight we [struck: we] are the boys that can give it to them it is [struck: by the] thought by the moste of the people hear that will be a big blo & little don thare is not half the talk about war hear [struck: that] as thare is in pickens Co all the wors now is in virgina & be fore we came hear it was in Pensacola I have no time to give in my eperiance in relation to my hospittle seems tho when I cum home I [inserted: will] sit down & tell you things that will make the hare rise on your head I hope I will find some letters in virgina from you if you have got my letters I have writin I havent received but one letter from you yet this is the fourth one I have to you please open my trunk & sun my close onse and again keep them in good care for think I shall need them next winter I must close in short for it is time to go to packing up to start fare well for the presant yours Truly J M Tate
