Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Family for Charles P. Noyes and his wife, Emily H. Gilman, both of whom were born in the mid-1800s. It goes back seven generations. Charles P. Noyes is the son of Colonel Daniel R. Noyes and the grandson of Colonel Thomas Noyes. Earlier generations are incomplete and many included names are missing dates.
