Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Title continues "Being a series of sketches, with a chart of the ancestors of Charles Phelps Noyes and Emily H. (Gilman) Noyes, his wife." Published in St. Paul, Minnesota by Gilliss Press (New York). Inscription on flyleaf reads "This Book is one of an Edition of Two Hundred Copies. Privately Printed. This Copy is No. 77 Presented to Mrs. Franklin B. Noyes. With the Compliments of the Author."

Charles Phelps Noyes was born in Lyme, Connecticut. He was a wholesale druggist in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was president of the board of trustees for the House of Hope Presbyterian Church.
