Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Order from the Governor of North Carolina, regarding reorganization of North Carolina Volunteers into regiments, signed by Riddick as Assistant Adjutant General. Places Captain George Wortham in charge of Company 2, the Granville Greys, in Weldon, North Carolina. The regiment would be known as the Twelfth North Carolina Volunteers.

Col. Richard H. Riddick of Pender's Brigade, 34th North Carolina, was mortally wounded at Second Bull Run.
