Hargrove, recruiting in Granville County, North Carolina, writes to a fellow infantryman regarding recruiting and "family" (possibly military company) affairs. Letter was initially sent in a letter to George Wortham, GLC02233.05, for forwarding to Rowland. Also encloses a copy of a circular (no longer present), which has left an ink burn on the verso reading "To Arms! To Arms! Our Fatherland is in Danger."

Dear Sir: - I am now at Kittrells, recruiting in Greenville Co. and Kittrells is my recruiting rendezvous. I am in hopes my company will soon be formed as I have only sixteen recruits to raise whenever you boys feel disposed to write me direct your letters to Kiterlls tell No seven to write me a big family letter & send it by my neighbor T. L. Williams. If you know no use for my shirt you can send it to me by T. L. Williams. If you have any use for it keep it, enclosed you will find my circular [illegible]dy. Gilliam & myself are [struck: both] [inserted: all] in the same company, I send this note in a letter written to Capt. Wortham. Give my [inserted: love] to No. six & seven.
