Bradburn is unsure how many recruits he will be able to obtain. There is a camp of cavalry instruction at Ashville, and Bradburn suggests that Wortham come unless he is doing well in Greenville. "I have met with some incouragement but whether I can succeed in getting many recruits or not I can't say positively to day as there is but few persons in Town I will go out to the country this Evening and try the young men of my acquaintance & see what can be done as soon as possible." Includes original Confederate envelope.
Thomas W. Bradburn was a Lieutenant in the North Carolina Twelfth Infantry.

George Wortham was a Confederate officer, who served as a Captain in the Twelfth North Carolina Infantry and later Colonel in the Fiftieth North Carolina Infantry.

Dear Sir
I have met with some incouragement but whether I can succeed in
getting many recruits or not I can't say positively to day as there is but few persons in Town I will go out to the country this Evening and try the young men of my acquaintance & see what can be done as soon as possible.
There is a camp of Instruction open at Ashville in Buncomb Co. for caverly and one company from Mecklinberge Co. N.C. also one from Cabaras Co. and I learn that there is a disposition to join the Caverly in those two Counties. I think you would do well to come up unless you are giting on prety well pleas write me immediately what your success is and what you desire me to meet you.
