Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Informs Knox that some items in his order are outside of the trade which Wright & Gill, a London stationery company operated by Thomas Wright and William Gill, engages in. However, Wright & Gill explain that they obtained and shipped the items since it was Knox's first order. This information was not noted on the previously sent invoice and Wright & Gill respectfully request payment.
