John de Neufville and Son, a merchant firm in Amsterdam, reports that war with England has effected trade. Comments extensively on the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War. Discusses business.

[partial] [draft]

...Except what you say concerning the War we are at with Engl.d which has most certainly affected our trade in general considerably, and almost every individual in particular, we of course must have had neighbours share; though we cannot yet say, what concerns we (or our friends) [inserted: may have] in the Robberies that were committed on us at St. Eustatia, but at the worst let our loss be what it will, we shall not regret it- if that event turns out as we expectd. an unfortunate one for England, who with all the advantage they have made of that perfidious business, would not now renew it were they to begin again, as it never thought we should have prefer'd a War to Concessions, which they thought our defenseless situation alone, would lead us to had they made no dependance on the adherents, they had here in both which, they have been Eggregiously [sic] mistaken- the patriotism that actuated the few who swayed our city alone defeated both. and- we hope will succeed in the end in effecting between your States and ours that union- Wished for by so many, and so much for the interest of both..."
