Mifflin, President of Congress, encloses an Act of Congress directing Knox to ascertain from the British Commander in Chief of North America precisely when the British will leave their posts within the boundaries of the United States (possibly refers to Frederick Haldimand; see GLC02437.03019). Also asks that Knox arrange for cannon and stores at the posts to be delivered to West Point or another convenient location. Original of GLC02437.02999.

Sir

I enclose to you an Act of Congress of the 12th Inst; by which you are directed to open a Correspondence with the Commander in Chief of His Britannick Majestys Forces in Canada; in Order to ascertain the precise Time when each of the Posts, within the Territories of the United States now occupied by British Troops, shall be delivered up.
You are also to endeavour to effect an Exchange, with the British Commanding officer in Canada, of the Cannon & Stores at the Posts to be evacuated, for Cannon & Stores to be delivered at West Point, New York or some other convenient Place: and if this cannot be done; that then you cause the Compliment of Cannon & Stores, requisite for those Posts, to be in Readiness to be transported thither in the most convenient & expeditious Manner possible.
