Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Copy with clerical signatures of several individuals on both sides of the treaty, including John Twigg, Elijah Clark, Tallessee King, and Tallessee Warrior. See GLC02437.03216 (probably originally another component of the same document) for copies of related treaties, with clerical signatures of John Milton and many of the same people, including John Twigg and Elijah Clark. John Milton certifies the authenticity of the copy.
