Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Biddle tells Knox that he "got the Certificate for the Bank share passed through as soon as I could after the full time allowed by the regulations at the bank had Expired and should have transferred it but your power to me for the purpose has been misplayed either by me or at the Bank." Biddle is "mortified" at this delay.
