Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

States that he has received from Robert Luist Fowle a printing press, a set of type face, and other items which Robert Fowle had bought from him in August of 1764. Includes a note on the verso signed and dated Boston 5 March by Robert Fowle asking to have some items delivered to Thomas Flucker.
