Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs by quoting from a letter he recently received that Pickering has been nominated, and will be appointed, District Judge for New Hampshire. Offers to maintain a communication "on the Business of our Offices as well as an other occasions."

Lowell was then a judge of the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts.
